The LIVE Bachelor Wedding of Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudice will not be the only live wedding on TV tonight. In fact, there will be 34 weddings going on during the live Grammy performance of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ song “Same Love.” These 34 couples will represent all sexual orientations and various races and will have Queen Latifah officiating. Have to say, I am a bit jealous. That would be one crazy good memory to have of your wedding!
Mackelmore and Ryan Lewis are nominated for multiple Grammy awards tonight including Song of the Year for “Same Love”, a marriage equality anthem which has been widely popular and also features the voice of Mary Lambert. In tonight’s performance, Madonna will be joining them. Madonna came under fire last week for tweeting a picture of her son with hashtag #disnigga. Should be an interesting combination!
The couples, one of whom will be Macklemore’s sister, will be walking up and down the aisles of the Staples Center and not brought on stage. Show producer Ken Ehrlich stated that putting the soon-to-be-wed pairs onstage “could be viewed as more exploitative.”
“It seemed like less of a ‘show’ than if I put them onstage,” Ehrlich explained. “I don’t want them to feel as though they’re on parade.”
The Grammy’s will broadcast at 8 pm EST on CBS while the Bachelor Wedding will be simultaneously broadcasting on ABC.
