Survivor BBB – Find out what it is

On the reunion show of the Survivor Blood vs Water finale, they showed a clip of a clue as to what the next Survivor theme will be with the letters BBB.  They show the back of a muscular man, hands working on a puzzle, and a beautiful blonde emerging from the water.  It could only be one thing… three separate tribes labeled: Brawn, Brains, and Beauty.  Since this came right after the Cochran teaser, I am hoping that Cochran will be on the next season in the Brains tribe!  Hayden could come back on Brawn. And Parvati could come back on Beauty.  What do you think?  Who would you like to see come back?  My guess is they will have one returning player on each tribe.

At the end of the reunion show they confirm that it is indeed Survivor: Cagayan – Brawn vs Brain vs Beauty .  Should be good stuff!

Survivor Blood vs Water finale recap – Winner revealed!

Survivor-Blood-Vs-Water-logo

The remaining players come back from tribal council and once Ciera falls asleep, Tyson and Gervase try to make sure Monica is solid with them.  They know that no matter who comes back from Redemption Island tomorrow, they will be joining Ciera, so the three of them need to stay tight.  Monica says in the interview piece that she wants to be on both sides so that she is guaranteed final three no matter what.

Hayden arrives on Redemption Island, the ladies, Tina and Laura, greet him with sorrow… they did not want to see Hayden there.  Hayden explains to them how it all went down and that Ciera won immunity.  He says he likes his chances competing against two grandmas in the final duel.

Tina

Tina

Redemption Island: The contestants need to put one foot on the end of a balancing board, a vase is placed at the other end.  They have to keep their foot up there and not let the vase drop.  Person who lasts the longer is back in the game.  Laura starts wobbling almost immediately.  15 minutes have passed and everyone is still in it.  Hayden gets something in his eye, loses balance, and the vase falls.  Laura is still wobbling all over and Tina is holding steady.  Laura says “just let me have it.” Tina says “not a chance, sister!”  Seriously…. the BIGGEST duel so far, are you kidding me?   Tina starts shaking, vase tips, but then saves it.  Laura wobbles too much and her vase drops and Tina is back in the game!!!!  Ciera is in tears to see her mom go home.  Hayden says this experience has made him appreciate what he has at home even more… his family and his girlfriend.  He drops his buff into the flame.  Laura feels she failed and she didn’t “finish strong.”  Ciera comforts her mom and says how proud she is of her.  Laura says “how can you walk away saying you lost after hearing that?”  She drops her buff in the flame, and she is now on the jury.  Tina gets the clue to the hidden immunity idol (the one that Tyson has) and decides to keep it for herself.  I would have been happy no matter who made it back in, but I do love Tina and happy she gets another chance!

Back at camp Kasama, everyone congratulates Tina and welcomes her back.  Tina says her plan is to try to make an all girls alliance and bring Monica on board with Ciera.   Tina begins looking all over camp for the hidden immunity idol.  Tina approaches Monica and says that the jury is pissed at Monica.  Ciera doesn’t feel like Tina’s taking the best approach being confrontational about it, so Ciera starts trying to playing to Monica’s ego and building her up and saying that now is the chance to prove to everyone that she isn’t just Tyson’s “lap dog” that she has a mind of her own.

Immunity Challenge: Pull on a rope connected to a table that levels the table, contestants have to hold that steady while placing 10 blocks in a row on the table.  The blocks are spaced out on three different platforms that the contestants have to walk to while hold the rope and table steady.  The first person to place all 10 standing up wins.   Tyson is holding steady in the lead.   His blocks haven’t fallen while the others have had quite the struggle.  Tyson has just one block left.  He’s going very slowly as no one is even close to him now.  Tyson wins immunity and makes final four!!

tyson240x320

So Tyson now has individual immunity and the hidden immunity idol.  He says he’d like to keep the hidden idol as a souvenir for his girlfriend, Rachel.  Tyson’s alliance is discussing whether to vote out Ciera or Tina.  Monica wants Tina out because she doesn’t feel Tina has any enemies on the jury.  Gervase doesn’t trust  Ciera and think she can worm her way into people’s heads.  Gervase and Monica are having it out over if it’s going to be Ciera or Tina.  Gervase says “Ciera voted her own mother out – that’s a big move!”  Monica breaks down and says she’s tired of being bullied by everyone.  Monica starts talking to Tina and Ciera saying that she might be willing to vote for Gervase.  Monica says tonight is her night and she’s going to do what’s best for her.

Tribal council: Jeff flat out asks where Monica sits.  She says she feels like she’s in the middle again.  Monica says that the girls came to her and said “let’s vote out the villains.”  Gervase says he’s never seen himself as the villain, he’s just playing the game like everyone else.  Monica says with tears in her eyes that the last 24 hours have been really hard on her and it’s the first time the game has really gotten to her.  For the first time she’s not going to do what’s best for her alliance, or what’s best for the other alliance, but she’s going to do what’s best for her.  Jeff Probst goes to tally the votes… Tyson hands the hidden immunity idol to Gervase and Gervase plays it.  All votes for Gervase won’t be counted against him.  1st vote: Gervase (does not count) 2nd vote: Gervase (does not count) 3rd vote: Ciera 4th vote: Ciera… 15th person voted out is Ciera.  So basically Monica just caved and went with the bully.  Her vote didn’t even count.  Monica’s last chance to make a big move and she completely failed.

SURVIVOR: BLOOD VS. WATER

Final Immunity Challenge: An obstacle race collecting puzzle pieces.  Solve the puzzle, it will help give you the combination to the lock.  Figure out the combination first, you win.  Probably the most extensive obstacle course I’ve seen in a long time on Survivor.  Monica and Gervase have an early lead.  Monica is in the lead now with Tyson close behind.  Tina is far behind needing two more bags of puzzles pieces while everyone else is on their last.  Tyson starts on his puzzle first, then Monica, then Gervase.  Tina finally working on her puzzle, but she’s way behind all the others.  Monica and Tyson are in the lead.  Tyson finishes his puzzle.  Figures out the clues, and figures out the combination.  Tyson wins final immunity – he’s in the final three.  My prediction right now is that he will end up winning the whole thing.   Tyson isn’t my favorite, but since he made it to final three, I don’t care who he takes with him, I can’t see anyone else beating him.

Tina starts scrambling and trying to get Monica to vote Gervase out.  Monica acts like she’s perceptive to this idea, but I still don’t see her doing it.  She’s the one that wanted Tina out the night before because she didn’t feel she could beat her in the final three.

Tribal Council:  Tina’s honest about trying to get Monica to vote with her.  Jeff Probst points out the Monica checked Gervase during the immunity challenge… almost unnecessarily.  Monica said that Tina was trying to work her, but the boys didn’t even approach her.  Jeff tallies the votes…. 1st vote: Tina 2nd vote: Tina 3rd vote: Gervase 4th vote: Tina.  Ugh so boring.  It wouldn’t make sense for Monica to vote for Gervase and create a tie, but nobody has made a big move.  I’m glad the rest of this season was really good, because this finale is a big snoozefest!

The final three have their big feast and reflect on the past 39 days.  Final tribal council… this is usually my favorite part of the finale if the past contestants are bitter and angry and really let the finalists have it.  I love that drama.  Just not sure there will be much of that this time.

Opening statements: Gervase first… he says his biggest move was getting out Ares and he had a 13 year break between his seasons of Survivor and he was able to come back and make it to the final three.  Monica says she wants to address the elephant in the room which was the fact that she was dragged along by the men the whole time like a dog on a leash.  Monica says her strategic plan was to stick with Tyson and Gervase because she doesn’t have as much blood on her hands as the two of them.  Tyson gives an emotional speech about how when Rachel got to redemption island he made the decision that he had to make it to day 39 and everything was done for strategy not out of malice.

Jury addresses the final three: Vytas is up first – He explains his last play was that he told Tyson if you vote me out I am not going to give you might vote in the jury house.  He says he’s standing by that and tells Gervase he had an unwillingness to adapt.  He says to Monica she was the only one who stabbed him in the back.  So he doesn’t know who he’s voting for.  Katie says to Tyson that he did do something out of malice.  When she drew the white rock, he stood up to hug her and pointed to the jury seat and said “that seats for you.”  Katie says that was done out of malice.  Tyson apologizes and says that was the one thing in the game that he regrets.  Caleb asks Gervase what was your big game changing move.  Gervase said it was voting out Ares, and Gervase says he was never the target.  A lot of the moves came from him, not Tyson.  Caleb tells Monica to answer from the heart, not the head.  Monica says the last 21 years have been about her husband, Brad, and the NFL, and this time it’s about her.  To give her something other than just being Brad’s wife or a mom to her sons.  Ciera asks Tyson if he sees himself as the villain or the hero.  Tyson says everything he did was for pure strategy.  She asks Gervase if he was ever going to be with Tyson.  He said he was waiting for the time that was right to do it.  If it made more sense to stick with him, then he would.  Laura says to Monica she doesn’t know who she is.  Monica gives a heartfelt answer about being 100 lbs, weighing half as much as the men, and she’s sitting right there.  Tina asks each of them to use one word to describe them.  Monica says Generous, Gervase says Honorable, Tyson says fun-loving.  Hayden asks Tyson if he had the idol when they drew rocks and where was it.  Hayden addresses Monica then and says she’s been a little fake.  Monica addresses the jury and says “have you never met a nice person?  Have never met a person who’s not selfish?” Hayden says he just doesn’t feel he knows her.  Ares tells Gervase to tell him why he should vote for Tyson or Monica.  He talks Tyson up, says he had a great social game and a strategic player.  Monica says he should vote for Tyson.  Tyson said he would vote for Monica and that her big move was being able to get information out of people that Tyson and Gervase couldn’t get.  For the last time, it is time to vote for sole Survivor.  They show Caleb votes for Tyson, Vytas votes for Monica, and the rest are concealed…

At the live reunion now:  Tyson, Monica, and Gervase sit awaiting their fate.  Tyson’s hair is straight and flowy. Jeff reads the votes: 1st vote: Monica, 2nd vote: Tyson, 3rd vote: Tyson, 4th vote: Tyson, 5th vote: Tyson, 6th vote: Tyson.  Tyson is immediately in tears and hugs Monica and Gervase.  WINNER OF SURVIVOR BLOOD VS WATER: TYSON!!!!

Survivor Blood vs Water Finale – Airs Sunday – Who wins?

I hope your schedule is clear for Sunday night if you’re a fan of Survivor because it’s the 2-hour finale plus 1-hour reunion show!  I love Survivor finale night!  Lots of twists and turns… anything can still happen!

Left in the game we  have:

Tyson – the arrogant ringleader

tyson240x320

Gervase – The sheep who thinks he’s playing the game but really just does what Tyson says

''Survivor'' Television Show Participant Gervase Peterson Moves on the New Career Opportunities

Monica – one tough cookie who is sticking with the boys but has a shot of turning the game around if she wins the crucial immunity challenges

Ciera – about to take 4th or 5th place unless her mom comes back in the game

SURVIVOR: BLOOD VS. WATER

Left on Redemption island to fight their way back into the game is:

Hayden – who you would think would be good at challenges, but really isn’t, so he could easily lose out to the women.

Tina – I think she will be a fan favorite, but not necessarily in good contention to win the game.  Bless her heart though, love Tina!

And finally Laura, Ciera’s mom – I’m torn between her or Tina who I want to come back in to the game.  I’d rather see Tina, but I’d like Ciera to have a better chance at advancing and she’s going to need her mom’s help for that.

Overall, I would like to see one of the women win it.  I don’t want to see Tyson win and be the sole survivor, even though he probably has played the best game, I just don’t care that much for him and he’s too arrogant.  Who are you hoping to win?

Bethenny’s random act of kindness: Find a single mom on Twitter a job for Christmas

Real Housewives of New York star, talk show host,  celebrity, Bethenny Frankel asked a pretty innocent question on Twitter tonight, “Have your kids written to Santa yet? What are your kiddies asking for?” A single mom who goes by @MargaretAndy on Twitter responded, “ My son wrote to Santa and asked that instead of a toy that if Santa could help me find a job. I was in tears.!!” To which Bethenny surprisingly responded with, “You are my random act of kindness today. I will help you to find a job

Margaret was beside herself with excitement, rapid firing tweets such as “OMG REALLY !!!! THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart” and “This is amazing I am freaking out right now !!!”  Other fans were joining in congratulating Margaret and praising Bethenny for her good deed.

On Margaret’s twitter feed is a tweet from a woman who works on Bethenny’s show (Jacqueline Lagratta) asking her to direct message her.  And just like that, Margaret’s life is forever changed.

I hope Bethenny and Margaret will keep us all updated on the progress of this.  It really is a Christmas miracle.  If I were rich and famous, this is exactly the kind of thing I would do.  Give to those who are just down on their luck that are obviously doing something right raising their children if that’s what her son asked Santa for for Christmas.  Hugs to Margaret and Merry Christmas!  Thank you Bethenny for being an inspiration.

Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs have separated

The cutest couple in musical theater ever!  After 10 years of marriage Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs have separated.

“Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs have jointly decided to separate at this time,” reps for the couple tell PEOPLE exclusively. “Their primary focus and concern is for their son. We ask that you respect their privacy during this time.”

The couple met during the original production of the Broadway musical “Rent” in 1998.  The two married in 2003 and have one son, Walker, who was born in 2009.

I am shocked at this news as Taye Diggs was recently on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen and he seemed to be gushing over Idina while telling the story of how the two met and fell in love.  However, the rumor mill says that he cheated on her.

Menzel is currently staring as Elsa in the Disney movie, “Frozen” which she is nominated for a Golden Globe for and Taye Diggs was most recently starring in the TV show “Private Practice.”

Millionaire Matchmaker: “The Know-it-All and Bigger Better Berman” Season 7, Episode 2

This is the second episode of the season and so the second episode in which Destin and Rachel are no longer on the show.

Click here to read why Destin and Rachel left the show.

Have the new assistants / staff grown on you at all?

The episode starts out with Patti and her boyfriend, David, having lunch with Patti’s friend (and Kim Kardashian’s BFF) Jonathan Cheban.  Jonathan definitely gives off a gay vibe.  He looks like a hairdresser or a Hollywood makeup artist, but apparently he’s straight and his ideal woman would be Jennifer Lopez or Naomi Campbell type.  Someone feisty with flavor.  The show looks like they just sprung it on him that Patti’s going to set him up.  He seems reluctant, but goes with it.  We all know this was planned well before the cameras were rolling, but that’s okay… I can go with it.

The new assistants pitch this client, Eric Berman, to Patti.  Patti’s just lukewarm and asks the assistants questions about the guy.  They can’t answer the questions (or so it seems).  And Patti then spews all of this matchmaker wisdom to her green assistants making them look super dumb and her super knowledgeable.  And a speech about how matchmaking is not a job it is a calling and she’s going to have karma on her ass if she doesn’t do right by people.  OH PLEASE!!!  Okay, don’t get me wrong, I have loved this show from day one – but this new staff business is just under my skin.  The new office, the new assistants… it’s just too much change for me to be able to handle and it’s making me cranky!

Back to the show… the show the video interview of Eric Berman, an investor in multiple clubs and bars in San Diego. He comes across like an arrogant ass.  It’s all about him, he dates women half his age with big boobs, and he has a laundry list of what he wants in the perfect woman for him.  Patti meets with him in person and dubs him “Bigger, Better, Berman.”  Basically no matter who she gives him, even Jennifer Aniston, he’s going to think he wants bigger and better.  He cringes at the idea of monogamy, but is interested in breaking the habit of serial dating.

Courtesy of Bravo

Patti now sits down with Jonathan.  He says he’s the worlds most famous BFF because he’s been on Kim Kardashian’s show for the last 5 years.  I do not watch or follow the Kardashians, so I have never seen him before in my life.  Patti dubs him “Mr Know-it-All” and he says he’s just always right, but she corrects him again and says “know-it-all.”  She also accuses him of being in love with Kim Kardashian, to which he doesn’t exactly deny that.

The selection process is about to begin and Patti is once again whipping these new assistants into shape on what to look for, what kind of women to set these men up with.  To me, this would be interesting information if it were Season 1, but it’s not, this is Season 7 and we get it.  Hell, most of us avid fans of the show could probably set up a mixer based on what we’ve watched over the years.  These “training” sessions do not need to be done on camera.  The audience knows this stuff already.  Just sayin’.

The women have been selected for the mixer, and Patti had evening gowns delivered for the women to wear since this is her first black tie mixer she’s done.  Jonathan shows up in a suit with a t-shirt underneath…. Patti, of course, instructs him to change immediately.  Each guy during the mixer will meet with each woman individually and then will select who they want for their master date.

Jonathan starts bombing his one-0n-one time with the ladies by being snobby and know-it-all.  Eric is still looking over at the other women while talking to a girl one on one.

The men finally get their acts together and pick a lady for their master dates.  Jonathan picked Jen, a beautiful blonde who is a forensic psychologist.  Eric chose Ashley, the hairdresser from San Diego, where he also lives.  Ashley is drop dead gorgeous!

Eric decides to take Ashley to the Del Mar race track.  That would be something fun to do on a date.  Eric then introduces Ashley to a race horse, Impeccably,  he just became an investor in.  She’s smiling and giggling a lot… it seems to be going well.

Jonathan took Jen to a hot, new restaurant in Hollywood.  Jonathan starts talking about a new company, Billionaire Burger he’s starting, and how he’s running so many companies that he gets constant emails.  Ugh… save me the self importance junk.  Shows such insecurity that he needs to lead with that.  Jonathan asks if she’s ever watched The Kardashians… Jenn says she’s watched it some, but mostly watched it for Scott (Kourtney Kardashian’s baby daddy).  Awkward! He finally switches it on her and has her talk about herself.  Date seems to be going okay.

Eric takes Ashely to a fancy, crowded restaurant, but he had a big private dining room reserved for them.  They have great conversation and Eric says he’s focused just on her now.  She says privately to the camera that she wishes the connection were a bit stronger, but she had a good time.  When Eric puts his guard down he seems more real, human.

Jonathan took Jenn to this crazy bar, Beachers Madhouse, and he says this is the true test.  She’s either going to love it or she’s going freak out.  First thing they show is this little person dressed as an oompaloompa going through the air by way of a pulley system to deliver the drinks.  I think I see a stripped pole in the background, red velvet everywhere… yeah… this is not where you take someone on a first date.  It basically just turns into a big freak show.  She doesn’t seem to mind though… but is this monogamy material?

Patti calls Jenn and Jenn tells her it was hard to talk to Jonathan in the club, but they had decent conversation with him over dinner.  If he were to ask her out again, Jenn said she would be interested in seeing where it goes.

Patti then calls Ashley.  She said she had a good time, but didn’t feel that big of a connection, and Patti blames it on him not giving her a kiss… it put him in the friendzone.

Update at the end states that Jonathan and Jenn have been in contact with each other but haven’t gone out yet because he’s on the opposite coast right now.  Hoping to go out when he gets back to L.A.   Eric has called Ashley but she has not returned any of this calls.

Overall a good, entertaining episode, I still can’t see Jonathan actually wanting to settle down.  To me, it seems like he was in it just to be on yet another reality show and another way to promote his companies.  Eric, on the other hand, looked like he actually learned something from this experience and the fact that he was a little smitten but didn’t get the girl in the end and didn’t have the guts to kiss her, probably knocked him down a peg where now (maybe) he won’t always be looking for the Bigger Better Deal because he knows he can’t necessarily get everything he wants.

UPDATE 12-13-13: Patti tweets about her new staff saying they are not sheep!  Then has a quick comeback for me, but I found it hysterical.  Any publicity is good publicity, right?  People are annoyed at the new assistants, but at least it gets people talking.  That’s how Miley Cyrus makes a living nowadays, am I wrong?

Destin and Rachel no longer on Millionaire Matchmaker

*** UPDATE ***  Please check out the comments section for more details on Destin and Rachel’s departure from the show from a relative of a Bravo exec.

Busy week, so I am just sitting now to watch the seventh season premiere of Millionaire Matchmaker.  I saw a commercial for the season and noticed the new faces, but I guess it didn’t hit me until one minute in that Destin Pfaff and Rachel Federoff are truly gone GONE from the show.  In the first SECOND of the premiere, Patti says her old “assistants” left and now she has new staff.  I literally paused the DVR 1 SECOND into the show to write this and formally say I don’t like these changes.  Then I Googled the reasons Destin and Rachel left the show.

Something that needed no Googling was the fact that Patti referring to them as “assistants” was a slap in the face.  I am a huge fan of Destin and Rachel and I can tell you that Destin basically ran the place and was co-owner and Rachel was VP of Marketing.  Those aren’t exactly “assistant” roles.  Apparently though, Destin and Rachel chose to leave the show and company to pursue their own endeavors. I am sure that there is a whole lot more to it than this because neither party seems particularly happy about it, but it’s clear that Destin and Rachel were not fired.  They possibly wanted more money from Bravo or larger roles in the company/show, and apparently did not get what they were looking for.

Destin took to his Twitter account to say this:

“For the record, @RachelFederoff & I were not ‘assistants’ – I ran a multi-million dollar company and was a fantastic matchmaker and Rachel was VP of Matchmaking. There’s nothing wrong with being an assistant, but we worked very hard to get to where we were with Patti and the show – and the frustrating public perception that we didn’t do so many many things with her, the company, the clients and the show is now amplified by a false statement that we were ‘assistants’ in tonight’s episode. Ugh. Whatever. Ok moving on- here’s to new film and tv endeavors and @DNRBrands ! We wish Patti and the show much success! We love you friends, family and FANS! Please show your support via twitter and Facebook and any social networking – we love hearing from you ! And yes, we left by choice to pursue new endeavors.”

What I liked about Destin and Rachel were their edginess.  I’ve never lived in L.A. but I liked that they seemed very un-L.A.  They had their own style and they weren’t your typical Barbie and Ken dolls that I think of when I think of L.A. people (They named their child Sin Halo for Pete’s sake!).  The new staff however is exactly this and it just makes my skin crawl.  It looks like they hired the friends of the guys on Millionaire Dollar Listing.  Again, I’m literally one second into the show as I’m writing.  Maybe I’m allergic to change, but I want Destin and Rachel back on Bravo in some capacity.  They’re crazy interesting people that are highly intelligent and just people I would want to hang with in real life.  They will be missed FOR SURE!

2013 – 2014 Cancelled TV Shows

UPDATED 5-9-14

Community (NBC)  – even though this show has skidded by the skin of its teeth for several seasons now, I’m pretty surprised by this.  It still had a decent following and being cancelled after 5 seasons is a pretty big deal. RIP Community.

Revolution (NBC) – not so much a shocker to me.  Was surprised it lasted as long as it did.

Trophy Wife (ABC)

UPDATED 5-7-14

Dads (FOX)

Surviving Jack (FOX)

Enlisted (FOX)

Rake (FOX)

Almost Human (FOX)

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland (ABC)

Mind Games (ABC)

Breaking Boston – Pulled after just one episode

Raising Hope (FOX)

X Factor (FOX)

Michael J Fox Show (NBC)

Sean Saves the World (NBC)

I will do my best to keep this updated with the latest list of TV shows to be cancelled this fall.

Lucky 7 (ABC) – First fall 2013 show to be canceled.  Only two episodes aired.

We Are Men (CBS) – I had high hopes for this one given the great cast, but I only watched it once and didn’t have a desire to see it again.  It was pretty cheesy.

Welcome to the Family (NBC) – Starred Mike O’Malley and Ricardo Chavira (from Desperate Housewives).  Meh

Ironside (NBC) – I could tell from the previews that this Blair Underwood show had terrible writing, and a terrible premise.  I do appreciate the fact that a lead character on a show was in a wheelchair, but it didn’t seem to have much depth.  Let’s keep Blair Underwood in romantic comedies, shall we?

Back in the Game (ABC) –

American Dad (FOX) – Moving to TBS.  Had no idea this show was still on.

True Blood (HBO) – Season 7 will be the final season in 2014.

Betty White’s Off Their Rockers (NBC) – Canceled on NBC but picked up by Lifetime.

Californication (SHOWTIME) – Series 7 will be the final season in 2014.

Guilty Pleasure: Catfish – The TV Show

maxandnev2_wide-9be611bfa02877ca4c6b7e28325878b42f75edb3-s40-c85

So I completely get that I am late to the party on this, but I caught the marathon of Catfish (including the finale) yesterday on MTV and I am totally hooked (pun intended).

Catfish: The TV Show was modeled after the documentary movie, Catfish, which followed Nev Schulman through his adventure of falling in love with a girl, Megan, online and then meeting her in person and she turned out to not be quite who she said she was.  The term catfish is someone who pretends to be someone they are not online to create false identities, particularly to pursue deceptive online romances.

First off, the reality show would be nothing but a bad episode of Maury if it weren’t for Nev being the host and executive producer of the show.  He’s attractive, funny, intelligent, level headed, and just plain entertaining with his side kick and filmmaker friend, Max Joseph.  The two of them travel the United States in order to help facilitate these online romances to see if they are truly who they say they are.  In most cases, one person in the relationship has lied about something.  Whether it be their looks, their relationship status, or even their gender, there is usually some type of deception involved.  However, in some rare instances, the people turn out to be exactly who they said they were online and a beautiful romance in person is now formed.

Nev and Max get themselves into some pretty scary situations at times.  Many of these people have just had their hearts broken when they discover the person they thought they were in love with is nothing like what they had imagined.  They were lied to and deceived and that’s never a good feeling.  Nev and Max have a way of talking the deceived people down from the ledge and are a calming force in their sea of rage.  It is truly touching and interesting to watch.

lauren-and-derek-catfishOn the season finale reunion last night, we witnessed the ultimate success story of Derek and Lauren.  They had an online relationship for eight years but never so much as video chatted before.  Through Nev and Max’s help, Lauren goes out to meet Derek… he turns out to be EXACTLY everything he said was.  The couple continue their relationship, move in together, and on the reunion show Derek proposes to Lauren and she says yes.  The story has a happy ending, but they also revealed that back in August Lauren suffered a miscarriage.  Their relationship survived that though and is even stronger because of it.  They are seriously one sweet couple with a very strong bond.  She said multiple times that Derek is her best friend.  Simply beautiful.

As I watch the show I find myself envious of Nev and Max.  This is the exact kind of thing I would like to do for a living.  I’m great at researching people online and finding out more information about them.  Not sure I would want to be there for the confrontation part of it, but I’d love to help people in that way.  It’s an extremely interesting show… everybody has a different story.  Even the deceptive ones all have different reasons for deceiving the other person.  No two stories are alike and that’s what makes people tune in.

I will say though, there are two things about the show that drives me insane.  1.)  Even though there is an entire film crew following them along, Max still has a little camera with him that he carries around documenting everything.  I’m sure it’s to making it look more like a documentary, but it’s a bit distracting that the camera man is filming him film the people on the show.  2.) The deceiver hides her looks because she feels he (the deceived) won’t give her the time of day if he knew what she really looked like.  After months or years of building this incredible emotional bond, they meet up and she turns out to not look anything like her pictures, and he no longer gives her the time of day.  In the end, he is still made to look like the victim and she is this horrible person who lied.  When in fact, he’s really this superficial guy that she was right along about… he wouldn’t give her the time of the day once he knew what she looked like.  What a superficial society we live in where this guy isn’t seen as a douchebag, but instead a victim?   I get that she lied, but the fact that she weighs double what she said she did suddenly discounts the strong bond that they had and everything she ever did for him emotionally?  Just seems that that deserves a little more attention on the show.

Regardless, Nev is adorable and Max is an edgy, silver fox and the show is pure entertainment.  I’m hooked!!
